Skill 1:
Discernment
thout discernment, so much time and effort are wasted. Imagine someone walking down a road while anchored to the ground with a bungee cord. Not only would it get harder the further they got, but from time to time, they would find themselves yanked back, losing so much progress.
Watching others nearby climb higher than them without the same level of difficulty could disillusion them into thinking they were weaker than others. I used to feel this way. I could watch others eat what I wanted to eat, and it was like I gained the weight instead of them. I just couldn't break through. I was a yo-yo dieter. The more I'd try to make progress, the more I'd fall back, losing progress and exhausted with resisting.
Discernment is soooooo important. How much better to spend effort and focus finding and unhooking any bungee cords, than resisting the pull of the bungee cord?
If you keep fighting an addiction and keep losing, most likely you are fighting the wrong battle.
