Healthy People Think Differently
Therefore they act differently
Therefore they become something different
than the rest of us
They teach the food pyramid at school. Fruits and Veggies, Grains, Meats, Fats, Sugars.
Multiple decades of that mentality has not gone well.
I don't think of foods in those categories. Even the nutritionally improved Pyramid, which I do like, doesn't cover how I think of food.
It all comes back to plants.
Whether you're eating fresh from a garden, or opening a can, or microwaving a container, and chewing on a steak that came from a cow that eats--well, something.
So the starting point to food is: how is the soil?
You can get healthy plants from poor soil, nor healthy people and animals from unhealthy plants.
Even if someone is born into a line with rich nutrition heritage, if you put them on a poor diet, eventually it will catch up with them.
Saw that when I was younger. Saw people healthier than me chowing down on ice cream and pizza, skipping their veggies cause they didn't like the taste. Years later, their bodies showed it.
And some with poor nutrition heritage, who eating healthy, years later and improved their overall health.
I think of food in terms of how it affects my body.

How they view HungerSatisfy your hunger? No way. They wrestle their hunger, they overcome their hunger for periods of time before indulging their hunger.
What is hunger anyway? Physical--need nutrition, energy, etc Craving--can be good or bad withdrawal--habit and dependency forming foods and drugs. And yes, sugar is a drug. Embrace the hunger stop trying to end it or suppress it find a way to enjoy it Use a Variety of Fasts, diet changes, cleanses, and more Challenges Make it a social event (join in together |
How they View FoodSome "Foods" are actually drugs
Take a look at the two pictures above. Can you tell which is sugar and which is cocaine? It's time to face it. Most of what Americans eat cannot be classified as food. It's why the Standard American Diet is SAD, and why most people are digging their own graves with a fork. But trying to decide what's healthy and what isn't can be difficult. Search online for any specific food and you'll find articles claiming it to be healthy and other articles claiming it isn't. Doctors can't agree. Even nutritionist, whose very education centers on the health value of food can't agree. So how do we know? I use one simple test. Is it addictive? With addictive foods, the more you eat them, the more "hungry" you feel. Seriously, when was the last time someone came to work hugging their stomach because they ate too many carrots. BBQ ribs, yes. Donuts, yes. Carrots, no. I also study shopping carts. Yes, that's right. Shopping carts. I've learned nearly as much from shopping carts than I have from reading articles and text books. It doesn't take long to notice a pattern. Unhealthy people have carts full of boxed and canned food. Healthy people have carts full of stuff you would find in a garden. A lot of us already know that. We fill our carts with healthy food, then find ourselves running to a fast food place in the middle of the week while lettuce in our fridge waits and wilts. Why? Why is it so hard to eat healthy? Hunger vs withdrawal
Addictive food only leads to bigger addiction. Like getting a bowl of ice cream. Next time, you find yourself using a bigger bowl, or sometimes just sitting down with the entire ice cream carton and a spoon. Same with fast food, same with chips, cookies, cake, etc. Junk food only leads to slower metabolisms and bigger hunger. When I weighed fifty pounds more than I do now, I was hungry ALL the time. I constantly had to tell myself no, and with that many no's stacked up, the yeses were hard to restrain. One way out of all that hunger is nourishing yourself. I've noticed healthy food is the one you force yourself to eat. For me, that's mushrooms and spinach. Even if you're craving it, like a pregnant woman craving avocados, once you eat them, you feel good-to-go. |
