This scene was one of my most difficult, mostly because I had already written BtS Babysitting. I liked Tyler, his wife, and kids. I didn't want Tyler to die! If he hadn't already died in Desert book 1, I would've been tempted to have him live.
It was a sobering moment. I started thinking of real officers who fall because they took a stand at the thin blue line. These officers leave behind families, most of whom are dependent on them. The website ODMP shares stories of officers who have died while on duty.
Since I want Desert to be about gaining heart and courage ourselves, I'll be highlighting an officer whose family you can help on our Challenges page. A portion of Desert sales will also go toward families like these. We encourage our readers to do the same. Any contribution helps, whether it's $5 or $500. A little from a lot goes a long ways.
